Talk Bookish to Me by Kate Bromley

This romance novel is real life and exactly what I’ve been searching for.

“Ten years later, …everything felt so raw because deep down, I still thought about you all the time…bits of you and me are layered inside each one of my stories.”

Thank you, Kate Bromley, for writing this. I’m opening my own drafted novel and writing again because of you and your wisdom – “You never have to forget him, you just have to release the pieces that hurt. Love is the part of him you get to keep.”

But it today!

Kara Sullivan’s life is full of love—albeit fictional. As a bestselling romance novelist and influential bookstagrammer, she’s fine with getting her happily-ever-after fix between the covers of a book.

But right now? Not only is Kara’s best friend getting married next week—which means big wedding stress—but the deadline for her next novel is looming, and she hasn’t written a single word. The last thing she needs is for her infuriating first love, Ryan Thompson, to suddenly appear in the wedding party. But Ryan’s unexpected arrival sparks a creative awakening in Kara that inspires the steamy historical romance she desperately needs to deliver.

With her wedding duties intensifying, her deadline getting closer by the second and her bills not paying themselves, Kara knows there’s only one way for her to finish her book and to give her characters the ever-after they deserve. But can she embrace the unlikely, ruggedly handsome muse—who pushes every one of her buttons—to save the wedding, her career and, just maybe, write her own happy ending?

An American in Paris by Siobhan Curham

“To experience such love in the midst of such evil. It is like when you see a flower growing through concrete.”

This novel makes me want to call up my grandparents and ask them about their experiences in World War II.

I recommend American in Paris to fans of:

The Maggie Hope series by Susan Elia MacNeal

Bletchley Circle television series on Amazon Prime

An American Spy by Lauren Wilkinson

The Alice Network by Kate Quinn

The Secrets We Kept by Lara Prescott

The Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear

1937: Florence has dreamed her whole life of coming to Paris. She arrives on a sweltering summer day and, lost on the steep streets of Montmartre, asks for directions from Otto, a young artist with paint-spattered clothes and the most beautiful smile she has ever seen.

Otto becomes her guide to Paris, taking her to visit paintings in the Louvre and bookshops by the Seine. And when Otto returns home to finish his studies, they vow to reunite on the same spot they met, one year to the day.

Still dreaming of their parting kiss, Florence starts writing for an American newspaper and throws herself into becoming truly Parisian. All too soon, heady days of parties and champagne are replaced by rumours of war. When Otto finally returns to her, it is as an exile, fleeing Nazi persecution.

Soon, not even Paris is safe. Florence’s articles now document life under occupation and hide coded messages from the Resistance. But with the man she loves in terrible danger, her words feel hollow and powerless. If Florence risks everything by accepting a dangerous mission, can she rescue their dreams from that sunny day before the war?

My Kind of Perfect by Tracy Brogan

Traversing Wenniway Island, Michigan with Lilly is like running around with a friend back home in your small-town that you have had since high school. She’s slightly judgmental but not malicious about it (and she’s really fun).

Exhibit A:

“I bit back a giggle at the thought of this drop-dead diva having to plant her fancy ass down on the basic toilet seat at this gas station, but my solidarity with all women came first.”

I felt that. And honestly, I aspire to be Gigi, the martini-drinking grandmother, that sings painfully flat renditions of “The Sound of Music” tunes.

I’ll be adding the rest of the Trillium Bay novels to my bookshelf very soon.

Buy it today!

After her scandalous May-December romance comes to an end, baby of the family Lilly Callaghan returns home to Trillium Bay braced for the torrent of “I told you sos” from her sisters and the rest of the tiny island community. Floundering both personally and professionally, she’s at an emotional crossroads but determined to figure out her next best steps.

When a surprise job offer from her house-flipping sister reacquaints Lilly with handsome, free-spirited Wenniway Island transplant Matt Eastman, Lilly wonders if she’s ready for a new romance. Then she meets Hollywood heartthrob Jayden Pierce, who is filming a movie on the island, and she’s certain of it—but with whom? She’s caught the attention of both men, and both men have caught hers. So what’s a girl to do?

Earnest Matt shares her love of the close-knit island community, while surprisingly down-to-earth Jayden encourages her to live life outside her comfort zone. As the flirtatious triangle sets the town talking, Lilly must choose: Does she want to plant forever roots in Trillium Bay with Matt? Or follow a man who makes love stories for a living? Two very different men. Two very different futures. But deep down, Lilly knows that only one holds the promise of her kind of perfect.

I started writing my first novel in 2011 --

My original blog has long broken up with me. I don't even remember what email address was used to create it.

But I kept my manuscript draft inspired by it.
